The law of attraction is the very reason why you currently have or don’t have everything you want, or don’t want, in life. It is even claimed to have been the secret to success for many of the most influential people in the world to date such as Plato, William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Beethoven, Abraham Lincoln, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstein, among others. Essentially, the law of attraction is the ability to attract into your life whatever it is that you are focusing on.
It’s like gravity. Whether or not you believe in gravity does not affect whether gravity exists. Gravity is a universal law of life and it is always working. Likewise, the law of attraction is a universal law of life. It is always working, all the time, whether or not you believe it’s true. It will either work for you, or it will work against you.
Everything is energy
Everything in the universe is energy. Even a chair is energy. It may look solid and motionless, but at a subatomic level it is composed of millions and millions of particles vibrating with energy. At a subatomic level, the chair is pure energy, just like everything else in life. You, at this very moment while you’re reading this, are made up of vibrating subatomic particles giving off energy.
Your thoughts are also energy, and what you think about most will be attracted to you. Simply put, if you think positively, you will attract more positive into your life. If you think negatively, consequently, you will attract more negative into your life.
Every thought has a frequency. In a general sense, negative thoughts have a lower frequency and positive thoughts have a higher frequency. The law of attraction will then attract that which is vibrating at a similar frequency to those thoughts. This could be in the form of a material object such as a car or house, it could be another person, or it could even be a destination somewhere in the world. It could be anything.
To better understand this phenomenon, it will be helpful to first take a closer look at how the mind works.
The conscious vs. unconscious mind
There are two levels of your mind – the conscious level and the unconscious level. You think with your conscious mind, and whatever you habitually think about in your conscious mind, will sink down to your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind does not know whether something is true or false; it just believes whatever it is told by your conscious mind. Once your subconscious mind accepts an idea, it begins to execute it without you even being aware of it. Your subconscious mind makes up over 90% of your mental life.
If you continuously tell yourself that you’re horrible at talking in front of people, your subconscious will accept that as true. But if you continuously tell yourself that you’re great at talking in front of people, your subconscious will instead accept that as true. If you tell yourself that you’re confident, that you’re wealthy, and/or that you’re healthy – even if it may not be entirely true at that time, but you believe it and act as if it were true, it will become true. The key words here are if you truly believe it. Don’t confuse wishing with believing.
How do you truly begin to believe something as true? Through repetition.
If someone is not in life where they want to be, it’s simply because of their own self-image of themselves. What you believe in your conscious mind sinks down to your subconscious mind, and your subconscious will begin to make it true, regardless of if it’s actually true or not.
As stated by Joseph Murray in The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, “Your mind is a garden. You are the gardener, and you are planting seeds (thoughts) in your subconscious mind all day long, based on your habitual thinking. As you sow in your subconscious mind, so shall you reap in your body and environment.”
As an example, below is a quick 5-minute video where Dandapani, a reputable monk, explains how the subconscious mind plays a major role in the law of attraction. Starting at 3:50 is a great example where he illustrates how this law works in relationships today – how people often keep attracting the same type of person without even trying to.
You attract what you think about
Have you ever met someone and just had an instant connection? Like, you totally vibed with them but you couldn’t explain why? It’s because of this law of attraction. Their vibrations were at a similar frequency to yours.
It’s also the reason why you may not like someone but can’t really explain why. Their vibrations are at a completely different frequency than yours.
Thoughts combined with emotions directly affect the “programs” in your subconscious mind. These programs produce vibrations and attract that with a similar frequency.
This works with anything in life. Everything that comes into your life, you are attracting to you. You can attract the right relationships, wealth and prosperity, good health, and abundance in all areas of your life.
Since learning this truth, I’ve applied it to my life and can say with confidence that I have seen it work. I don’t believe that it was random that I was introduced to my business coaches and mentors during my senior year of college, as I was really yearning for something more at that time. I felt very unfulfilled in college, and was truly looking for something more to do with my life other than just going to school, getting good grades, getting a good job, and then working for the rest of my life.
I used this law to move down to NYC. I was first able to attract the right resources to make it happen. Then, I was able to find a nice apartment that both fit our budget and was in the exact location we were hoping for. We were able to move in less than a week after finding it.
I used this law to land my first job in the city. I signed the lease to our apartment when I didn’t even have a job yet, because I believed that I would be receiving a great offer soon. While I had bills to pay and anyone who knows NYC knows that it’s not a cheap place to live, I felt completely comfortable doing this because I trusted the law of attraction. Eventually, after several weeks, I received the job offer I had believed I deserved, that I trusted would be coming, and accepted it.
I used this law to attract even better job offers once I had some job experience. I believed that I deserved a better position, and I took action to make it a reality. I landed a couple offers, then accepted one.
I am currently applying this law in pursuit of additional life opportunities and to continue attracting the right relationships and people into my life.
I’m not anything special, and I’m not doing anything that anyone else can’t.
The negative
At the beginning of this post I mentioned how the law of attraction is always working, all the time. So long as you have thoughts, it will work – and it’s estimated that the average person has between 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day. Since the law of attraction is always working, it will either work for you if you have a positive state of mind, or it will work against you if you have a negative state of mind.
Out of those 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day, Dr. Shad Helmstetter states in his book What to Say When You Talk to Yourself that, on average, 70% of them are negative. The problem is that people often are thinking about what they don’t want. If you think to yourself that you wish you didn’t have so much debt, or that you’re unhappy with your health, those thoughts of debt and poor health are still occurring, so those are the frequencies being sent out into the world. That is then what you will get more of.
According to Dr. Shad Helmstetter, if you grew up in a reasonably positive household, you were told “no” or what you could not do over 148,000 times – and that’s if you grew up in a reasonably positive household! Combine this fact with the news and media today spewing out lies of how horrible the world is, and it’s no secret as to why we have limiting beliefs and why there is so much negative around us. Personally, I never watch the news or pay attention to any of that garbage because it’s usually all just negative and I don’t believe half of it anyways.
Do you remember before I mentioned that your subconscious mind does not know whether something is true or false? It just remembers whatever it is told by your conscious mind. So, if you grew up hearing “no” or what you could not do over 148,000 times, even though it wasn’t true, that was what your subconscious mind accepted as true. Since that was what it accepted as true, that was what it made true. It has nothing to do with who you truly are. You were not born to fail, you were born to succeed.
The solution to pollution is dilution. You can’t just get rid of the negative thoughts and beliefs you currently have, but you can begin to dilute them with positive thoughts and, in time, the positive will begin to outweigh the negative.
Your brain is designed to continue to change based on what you think and what you do (often referred to as neuroplasticity). It is not fixed. Your brain never stops changing – it is actually being rewired right now as you read this. With the right thoughts and the right environment, you can start today to begin to dilute all the negative that was wrongly put there in the first place.
But nothing changes in your life if nothing changes. Just knowing about the law of attraction and how it works is not enough to reap the benefits from it.
The future is yours to create
Mostly everything you have or don’t have, is a direct result of your thoughts and beliefs. Through the law of attraction, we all have the ability to manifest anything we want into our lives.
Now that you understand how this law works, what you do with it is entirely up to you. Your entire future is yours to create. Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.
“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7)
